Hawkpaw Rank-Up Requirements : Out With Mentor (2/5)

The mentor and apprentice watched as Kindlepaw rushed through the trees, a calico blur with bright blue eyes. "Hawkpaw! Leafpelt! Ravenstorm!" she cried out, finally skidding to a halt when she found them. She looked up at Leafpelt, who was leader of the patrol, and announced, her chest heaving, "ShadowClan is attacking! Sparklingheart and Curlcall are holding the border with 'paws, and they need help! One of 'em ran back to camp to get more warriors, but I knew you guys were out here, an'..."

She was breathing heavily, and keeled over to one side. Hawkpaw made a concerned move towards her, but she waved a paw impatiently, muttering, "I'm fine, I'm fine. Jus' gotta catch my breath, but you gotta go help Curlcall!"

"Of course," Leafpelt said. "Hawkpaw, I want you to stay with me. Ravenstorm, make sure Kindlepaw's okay before you come join us."

"Absolutely, Leafpelt. Hawkpaw, do exactly what she says, alright?" Ravenstorm said. "The last thing I need is for you to die a moon before you become a warrior." Her voice was terse as she made this dry joke. She butted her head fondly against her son's and meowed, "You'll do brilliantly. Now, go!"

Hawkpaw turned tail and plunged off towards the ShadowClan border, paws thrumming against the ground as he held pace right beside his mentor. As they neared the border, they paused only briefly to survey the scene of the battle before they leapt in, Hawkpaw screeching out a challenge of defiance, ready to protect his Clanmates.

So, I figured at some point some SkyClan apprentice would be sent back to camp to get help in the battle, and Kindlepaw would want her best buddy to participate and rush off to find him on his hunting patrol with Leafpelt and Ravenstorm, but she's chubby she's out of breath really quickly, and Ravenstorm takes it as an excuse not to fight in the battle against ShadowClan (she's had conflicted feelings, because she was friends with Nettleblood and respected Loonstar. She has no idea they're dead yet, but she doesn't want to fight them).

Anyway, Hawkpaw's first major battle, he's really excited!
